Before Gordon's Arrival
Mark, Sous Chef
Chris and Brian were the two chefs under the previous owner, and they took it over. Both now regret it. Brian is laid back, and Chris is a nervous wreck. They only open 3 nights a week. They don't get much business when they are open.
Gordon arrives and notices the sign says "Hannah and Maso's" which he takes as a bad omen. Nick greets Gordon and notices his youth. Marie will wait on him. Gordon brings a picture of his wife.
Baked onion soup, quiche, lamb lollipops
Impressions of the Food
Baked onion soup-Gordon hates the appearance and there is way more cheese than soup. What soup there is, he says is tasteless
Quiche-Gordon says the texture is all wrong, and the salad has black spots
Lamb lollipops-Gordon says they are undercooked and hideous and the sauce is too sweet. He then turns the picture of his wife away from the food
First Dinner Service
Gordon talks to Chris and Brian. Gordon passes on his critiques. Gordon can't believe they're only open 3 nights a week. Chris is rattled and Brian seems indifferent. It's Valentine's Day, so they will be uncharacteristically busy. Gordon blasts their dessert display. Gordon notices that nobody checks the food before it goes out. Brian admits the salad is "pre-washed". To Gordon's horror something from the dessert display(over a week old) is being served. Gordon is getting frustrated and now wants to see the walk-in. Sure enough, it's disgusting. There is raw chicken with cooked chicken in the same container. Gordon has Nick shut the place down for the night. Gordon tells Chris he has passion, and once again lambasts Brian for his lack thereof. Nothing Gordon says affects him.
Remainder of the Visit
Gordon explores the town and sees a lot of farmer's markets. He buys a lot of apples from one and takes them back to the restaurant. Gordon wants to teach Chris and Brian a new special, and Gordon is disappointed that Brian is not excited about the freshness and quality of the apples. Gordon teaches Chris a special, pork with caramelized apples. Gordon challenges Brian to run the kitchen, but Brian doesn't communicate and the kitchen gets backed up. Nick is getting frustrated. Gordon's criticism finally gets to Brian and he leaves. He returns however, and finally things start to speed up. Gordon's special was well-received. Gordon announces that he will make big changes, which scares Chris.
Restaurant & Menu Remodel
Gordon's design team overhauls the restaurant. They fix the sign. Gordon reveals the inside, which includes a showcase of the town's produce. Even Brian is excited, but Chris is very skeptical. Gordon rewrites the menu, and takes it away from fine dining. This also scares Chris. The new menu is very simple, but fresh.
Gordon can't believe that Brian is now enthusiastic and Chris is disheartened by the changes. The kitchen gets off to a good start. Brian successfully makes the appetizers, but Chris struggles with the entrees. Then they run out of mashed potatoes, and Chris decides to cut them out of the swordfish. Gordon argues they should just make more mashed potatoes and he and Chris bicker. They start making more mashed potatoes, and they recover. Gordon impresses upon them not to be lazy. Brian is excited about the future. Gordon challenges them to show heart in the future.
After Gordon's Departure
Hannah and Mason's closed in 2010. Chris changed back to his old menu, and claimed that Gordon's menu alienated their customer base.
